Mercado Pago is launching a credit card for SMEs with a Visa flag and 18 interest-free instalments for purchases on Mercado Libre. Sellers on the platform already have a debit card and, from September, they will be able to have the credit line attached.
The company won't say how many SME customers it serves, but its total credit portfolio in Brazil is around R$8 million. According to a survey carried out by the company among 10,000 SMEs in April, for 90 per cent of them the card machine is still the main means of payment - despite the increase in sales with PIX and payment links.
The information was given just now by Tulio Oliveira, senior vice-president of Mercado Pago in Brazil and Daniel Davanço, country head of Payments for Companies.
