The fintech company Payhop has just announced an investment of 11.5 million reais, in a seed capital round led by Experian Ventures, the venture capital arm of Serasa Experian, which also included Domo Invest and Citrino Gestão.
Created two years ago by entrepreneurs Eduardo Rossi and Arthur Fontana, Payhop has been in the market for seven months. The startup was born with the purpose of enabling credit for retailers to buy from their suppliers using credit card receivables as collateral.
In this way, Payhop simultaneously serves both ends of the equation. For retailers, it facilitates access to credit and reduces prepayment expenses. For the industry, it allows them to sell more with less credit risk.
The startup's business model is in line with the recent decision by the Central Bank of Brazil, which gives retailers more freedom to offer their receivables as collateral for credit.
Serasa's investment comes along with a partnership focused on facilitating access to credit for retailers. "We identified in Payhop an important strategic fit. One of the main challenges to credit for retailers is the analysis of the risk of default. The solution offered by Payhop in partnership with Serasa Experian addresses precisely this pain, allowing the vendor to sell more, with lower credit risk on installment sales," says Fabrini Fontes, investment director at Serasa Experian, in a statement.
