Serasa Experian continues to go shopping. In a new step to expand and diversify its operations in Brazil, the company has closed the purchase of FlexPag, the 'utilities fintech' founded at Porto Digital in Recife (PE). The value of the transaction was not disclosed.
The acquisition will allow Serasa to launch a feature called "My accounts" in its mobile phone application. In practice, this is a bill aggregator that includes water, electricity and gas debts. The company's app currently has 83 million users.
Serasa says the deal is related to its "expansion strategy". The focus is on accelerating the democratisation of credit and delivering transparency and information to the market on various fronts, from individuals to agribusiness.
"All the acquisitions we have made since 2021 have had the purpose of bringing innovation and making up a portfolio that could offer consumers and companies more opportunities to access credit," the company said in a statement.
FlexPag is the ninth startup to receive capital from Serasa. Earlier this month, the company completed its acquisition of Mova. In addition to Mova, Serasa bought the fintech Pague Veloz and BRScan (anti-fraud), Brain Ag (software for agriculture), AgroSatélite (also technology for agriculture) and Nogord.io (a software company that used to belong to OpenCo).
The company - which is looking to position itself beyond a credit bureau - has also made investments in agfintech Traive and PayHop, a card receivables company.
"We want to help democratise access to credit and support more and more consumers and companies throughout their financial journey. That's why, in addition to the organic development of our company, with constant development of innovative solutions, we are betting on acquisitions that are in line with our purpose and contribute to the consolidation of this objective," says Valdemir Bertolo, CEO of Serasa Experian, in a statement.
