Omie - a cloud business management platform - has just received authorisation from the Central Bank (BC) to operate as a payment institution (IP), in the payment transaction initiator (ITP) modality.
The intention to be an ITP was revealed by Gabriel Siqueira, Omie's tech ventures director, in an exclusive article published by Finsiders last Thursday (13).
"It is a way for the customer, with consent, to operate any bank account they have within our system and also have a consolidated view of finances in one place," said the executive at the time.
As Gabriel explains, the regulator's endorsement - published in the Official Gazette of this Monday (17) - is the first step for the company to advance in the modality and, in practice, will allow the company's direct access to the Open Finance ecosystem.
According to him, the next steps are to advance in the technical requirements and start testing the first experiences with Omie customers, such as consolidating balances, reusing registration data, and allowing the initiation of transfers from within the system with the consent of users using the Open Finance infrastructure.
Headquartered in São Paulo (SP) and with a share capital of BRL 1.5 million, Omie's IP is controlled by the company's founder and CEO, Marcelo Lombardo.
Payment initiators are a type of payment institution (PI), created within the framework of Open Finance and Pix. They can, as the name implies, initiate a transaction with prior consent and authorisation from the end user. It is important to remember, then, that they do not hold the funds transferred in the provision of the service, nor do they manage the payment accounts.
Currently, there are more than 90 initiators registered in the Open Finance Central Directory, according to an annual report on the ecosystem. However, only 21 are actually certified and authorised to operate. The newest to join this list were BV and Nubank.
For experts, in the coming months, the trend is for this modality to gain strength with the entry of more players and the evolution of transactions of those already in operation. The market also expects news on the evolutionary agenda, among them, the journey without redirection and the Automatic Pix (for recurring operations).
